Storyboard
This project aimed to promote the use of an obsolete object and bring it into the modern era. I decided to focus on cassette players and mixtapes in particular because I felt that receiving a personalised mixtape with a unique tracklist was incredibly special. Making a physical mixtape required much more effort and passion than creating a digital playlist, in my opinion, including recording songs, creating the cover art, and even playing the mixtape on a cassette player.
Script
Early in the 1980s, the main character Cherie listens to a mixtape that her friend Jennifer gave her. She reminisces about the happy times they used to have on the beach. However, by the 90s she no longer uses her cassette player and puts it away for good. Years later, she rediscovers her cassette player and the mixtape and texts Jennifer about it. The two then decide to hang out and relive their childhood experiences on the beach.

The mixtape served as the film’s focal point. The mixtape design was hand-drawn and imperfect, as if it were made by a child. Red was chosen as a key colour to make the tape stand out in all scenes as well as symbolising energy and nostalgia. The tracklist includes music from the 1980s, with Duran Duran's 'Rio' serving as a key song to convey the vibrancy of the main character's precious beach memories.
